Zumba and October Challenges

With 6 weeks of WW under my belt, I'm so glad I am making this investment in my health. I am SLOWLY (but surely) seeing the weight come off, and I'm so proud of myself. I have to confess a few things before I go into a new school week....

1) Last week, I struggled severely with cravings, and I found myself making poor decisions early on in the week. It showed: I was into the negative weeklies by Tuesday, and I was feeling sorry for myself. But I picked myself up, got my workouts and eating back on track, and I managed to achieve a 1.4lb loss last week. I didn't make my goal of 195 last week, but I am determined to meet that goal this week! From my setback turned comeback, I learned that I can do ANYTHING I put my mind to.

2) On last Thursday, after my satisfactory weigh in, I decided to go to Zumba. I've been intending to go to a class since I joined my gym, but I never made the time or mustered up the courage to go. At first, I didn't like it. But by the third song, it started growing on me. I was working out and I really didn't have time to think about the fact that I was working out. (But on Friday morning, I quickly remembered!) The music is definitely going to take some getting used to, but I now plan to make my way to Zumba EVERY Thursday at 6:30pm.

3) On yesterday, I ate way too much for lunch and ending up using over 30 of my weekly indulgence points (I had just gotten new ones yesterday morning). My total points for yesterday were 67. :( But, I did complete a 35 minute workout and earned 9 activity points. Nonetheless, I still have 14 points left for the week and I REFUSE to tap into those. I forced myself to stay on point today, and I did! Even though it meant I didn't eat any of the peanut butter cookies my mom baked today, I'm so proud of myself!

4) Today, I discovered @dancefitnesswithJessica on IG and she is now one of my new fitspirations. As her name implies, she is very much into helping others dance their way to fit. Let's just say, I like her style.  A LOT. So much so that I purchased BOTH her workout DVDs for those days when I don't feel like going to the gym. Check out her YouTube channel here: Dance Fitness with Jessica. Here's one of her videos!

Have I made you a fan yet?

5) Tomorrow, I start the Cleanse phase of the Advocare 24-Day Challenge. (Yes, again) I paid all that money for this challenge kit, I may as well put it to good use. Since I'm learning to eat more healthily on WW, I'm going to look at the Cleanse as a way for me to boost my lifestyle. In the past, I tried to change my bad eating habits cold turkey, and I wasn't ready mentally. But now that I'm getting to a better place, I think it's about time that I give it another shot. I'll be posting my progress on IG daily and on my blog weekly (or maybe more frequently). I'll be doing the Advocare challenge in conjunction with the October Fit Challenge which I talk about below.

6) On Wednesday, I will be joining God knows how many people in the October Fit Challenge, sponsored by Parisha aka @beautylifelove11 on IG. A $100 Visa gift card is up for grabs, and I would LOVE to get my hands on it. To hold myself accountable, I will post my progress every week.  I will post more information on Wednesday, as it becomes available to me.  Here's what I know so far:

The following activities provide me with points:

  • 5 pts: No white bread, rice, etc.
  • 5 pts: No eating 2 hours before bed
  • 3 pts: Drink half of my body weight in ounces (that means roughly 100 ounces, or about 12.5 cups of water, i.e. 7 bottles of water)
  • 5 pts: Exercise at least 45 minutes
  • 3 pts: No junk food--cake, cookies, ice cream
  • 1 pt: track progress in journal
  • 1 pt: GroupMe App interaction
At the end of each day, I will calculate my points and report my total for the week to Parisha by 10:00 on Sunday.  I also have to take before and after pictures of myself. I can already tell that that water drinking part is going to be difficult.  Oh, boy. And those darn before pictures....Anywho, I will have more details Wednesday! If you are interested in the Challenge, you can sign up here.

7) I have made a goal to be down to 180 by Christmas. That's only 5 pounds to lose in October, November, and December. (That's about 1.5lbs a week.) With Thanksgiving in November and Christmas in December, I'm going to try my best not to indulge myself, but I will plan my meals and exercise throughout the month so that I can indulge accordingly. The good part about both of these holidays is that they are toward the end of the month and I'll have a week or so to "redeem" myself from any poor eating decisions. To be down to 180 for the New Year will be sweet!
